About this Trail
The Bennerley Viaduct Trail takes you on a journey through the heart of Nottinghamshire's industrial heritage. This Grade II* listed iron lattice viaduct, known as the "Iron Giant", stretches 440 meters across the Erewash Valley.
Built in 1877 to carry coal trains, the viaduct is one of only two wrought iron lattice railway viaducts remaining in the UK. The trail offers stunning views and connects you with the area's fascinating coal mining history.
Did You Know?
Bennerley Viaduct was saved from demolition in 2015 and is now being restored as part of a heritage project. The viaduct uses the same lattice design as the famous Crumlin Viaduct in Wales!
